Nebulizer Machine

Most of us know that nebulizer machines are devices used in the treatment of people with certain respiratory conditions. If you are interested in knowing more about nebulizer machines, then read on…
A nebulizer machine is a device used for administering medication for treating respiratory conditions like asthma, bronchitis, COPD, etc. This device is mainly used for those patients, who are unable to use metered dose inhalers. This include infants, elderly, sick people, etc. However, nebulizers are found to be very much effective in dispensing medications to the patient in the proper way. Let us take a look at what is a nebulizer machine and how is it operated.
What is a Nebulizer Machine?
A nebulizer machine is a device used for administering medication for patients with certain respiratory conditions. Basically, there are two types of nebulizers – compressor or jet nebulizer and ultrasonic nebulizer. The former is more commonly used for nebulizer treatments. A jet (or compressor) nebulizer machine consists of a compressor, a nebulizer cup, and a mouthpiece or mask. The compressor is connected to the nebulizer cup with tubing. The nebulizer cup is meant for holding the liquid medicine. This cup is connected to a T-elbow (found in some models only) that in turn, is connected to a mouthpiece or mask. The compressor produces a stream of pressurized air, which passes through the tubing to the nebulizer cup. The liquid medicine in this cup gets converted to aerosol mist, due to the action of compressed air. These tiny aerosol droplets are said to be easily absorbed into the lungs of the patient, who inhales it, through the mouthpiece/mask. This is the basic working mechanism of a nebulizer.
In case of an ultrasonic nebulizer machine, the compressor will be replaced with an ultrasonic transducer that converts electrical energy to ultrasonic waves, which in turn converts the liquid nebulizer medication to aerosol mist. Nebulizer machines come in different models. Nowadays, you may also get portable nebulizer machines that can be easily carried around. While, the conventional nebulizers are more heavy and creates some noise, while working, portable ones are user-friendly and can also work on batteries. Now, that you know more about nebulizer machine parts and how does a nebulizer work, let us take a look at how to use a nebulizer.
How to Use a Nebulizer A basic idea about nebulizer machine parts and their working mechanism may prove beneficial while using this device. In order to use this device, connect the compressor of the device to an electrical outlet, by plugging its cord. Wash your hands with soap and water. Add the medication to the nebulizer cup, as per the instructions of your doctor. The measurement of the nebulizer medication must be correct. Nowadays, nebulizer medication come in vials that contain pre-measured doses, so that there is no need to measure medicine, every time, you use a nebulizer machine. Connect the nebulizer cup to the compressor with the tubing provided. Now, connect this cup to the mask or mouthpiece. If you are using the mouthpiece, hold it between the teeth and seal with lips. In case of mask, secure it properly and comfortably, around the face. Turn on the machine and breath slowly and deeply, till the medication in the cup finishes. It will be better to shake the cup in between, so that the medicine droplets on the sides of the cup get dispensed properly. After use, remove the mask/mouthpiece, T-shaped elbow, nebulizer
cup, etc and wash them in clean water. Let these parts get air dry, before storing them in zip lock bags. This is very important to prevent infections.
Now, you know about nebulizer machine, its working mechanism and how to use the device properly. In order to buy a home nebulizer, get a prescription from your doctor, who will be the best person to tell which type of nebulizer machine is best for you.
